EDU 1005 Introduction to Education 4.16.08

Librarian Ms. Lepore asked students to complete a pre-assessment before class to evaluate their own level of research skills.

Ms. Lepore defined information literacy as "a set of abilities requiring individuals to 'recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.'" Later she showed Ms. Tillotson what UNESCO is doing to develop professional development training for educators worldwide concerning information literacy.

After Ms. Lepore demonstrated how to access the educational databases, the education students used laptops in their WIRELESS classroom to complete the exercise. Ms. Tillotson offered extra credit for the completion of this assignment!

Even though one student had completed the general orientation, she took the opportunity to explore these specific education databases, and find resources on "classroom management."

Students were especially impressed with the ebrary database, and its ability to paste citation information automatically into word documents.
